CHAPERONE GUIDELINES Policy # 7410R |
|
Chaperones that are not District staff members are considered volunteers as described within the policy and regulations on school volunteers. The purpose of a chaperone, whether District staff or otherwise, is to keep order and assist staff in maintaining the safety of students. As such, chaperones will:
1) Follow the direction of the teacher/administrator in charge;
2) Be familiar with, and follow the Code of Conduct;
3) Actively participate in all aspects of the activity or field trip, including transportation, accommodations, meals, entertainment, and education, as applicable;
4) For school-sponsored field trips, adhere to the trip itinerary and time schedule arranged by the teacher/administrator in charge;
5) Be responsible for the safety and assistance of those students assigned to their charge and be aware of their whereabouts at all times;
6) Report student misbehavior to the teacher/administrator in charge;
7) Assist the teacher/administrator in charge in the event of an emergency; and
8) Model appropriate language and behavior, including refraining from alcohol, controlled substances, and tobacco products.
For school-sponsored field trips, chaperones will immediately advise the teacher/administrator in charge of the activity of any intervening circumstances which would prevent a student from being transported back to the District. Arrangements will then be made for a representative of the District to remain with the student until the student has been delivered to his or her parent or legal guardian.
