THE ROLE OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
1310 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE BOARD

As a Central School District, the Board of Education shall have powers and duties as set forth in New York State Education Law, principally Articles 33, 35 and 37, and other applicable Federal and State laws and regulations. In general, the Board shall have in all respects the superintendence, management and control of the educational affairs of the District and shall have all the powers necessary to exercise these powers expressly granted to it by the laws of New York State and the Commissioner of Education.

 

         The responsibilities of the Board include the following:

 

         a)  Adopting such by-laws and rules for its government as shall seem proper in the discharge of its duties;

 

         b)   Establishing such rules and regulations concerning the order and discipline of the school system as necessary to secure the best educational results;

 

         c)   Adopting the course of study for the students and their transfer from one class or department to another, as their scholarship will warrant; as brought forward by the superintendent;

 

         d)   Performing all other duties and exercising such powers as directed by New York State Education Law; and

 

         e)   Appointing a committee of Board members to inspect schools annually and report its findings to the Board at its next meeting.
