2245 EX-OFFICIO STUDENT MEMBER TO BOARD OF EDUCATION
Pursuant to State law, a student will be allowed to serve as an ex officio member of the Board of Education. To that end, the following requirements and procedures are hereby established for the appointment and service of such an ex officio student Board member (or “student representative”):
1. The ex officio student Board member must have attended the high school for at least one year prior to selection. They must be actively enrolled in the high school at the time of selection; and they must be in good academic and behavioral standing within the school. A second student may be selected as an alternate representative to attend in the student representative’s absence or may attend as a second student representative.
2. Students may apply to become the ex officio student Board member throughout the year and will chosen by the Board of Education President by June of the school year preceding their service as the student representative.
3. Appointments will be one year in duration.
4. The ex officio student Board member will be permitted to sit with the Board at all regular public Board meetings and may be permitted to participate in other Board activities and responsibilities at the discretion of Board. However, these students will not be allowed to attend executive sessions or other meetings or hearings not open to the public, nor will they receive any compensation for their service.
5. The student representative will not be entitled or authorized to vote on any decisions made by the Board.
6. When selected, the student representative will meet with the Superintendent and Board President for an ex officio student Board member orientation. Student may participate in regional student Board of Education member trainings as approved by Board of Education President.
